Research Locations

MODUL investigates beach-dune interaction, coastal dune dynamics, and dune evolution at a variety of sites along the Atlantic coast of Cádiz, in SW Spain. Some of the main field sites are:

Bolonia Dune System

One of the project´s field sites. The Bolonia Dune System is a mobile dune environment with barchanoid landforms reaching over 30 m in height.

It was declared a Natural Monument in 2001.

Camposoto Barrier

Another one of MODUL´s field sites. Camposoto Barrier is a beach-dune-marsh system close to the city of Cadiz. Offshore winds are common here (Levantes), complicating aeolian transport dynamics at the coast.

Valdevaqueros

The beach and dune system at Valdevaqueros is the closest to Tarifa. It is one of the windiest locations in Europe, and a favourite spot for wind and kitesurfers
