On Friday, May 10th, we hosted the 'Science with Snacks' workshop at Carlos III Public Primary School, in collaboration with the Parents Association (AMPA) of the Mentidero neighborhood in Cádiz. The children delved into the fascinating world of coastal processes, engaging in hands-on experiments and tests crafted by researchers from INMAR and the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of Cádiz, including researchers who were also part of the school community.
The kids were divided into two age groups: 5-7 and 8-10. They enthusiastically tackled three challenges: the “waves-test,” the “winds-test,” and the “sand-test,” each utilizing fit-for-purpose equipment such as the wave tank, wind tunnel, and our newly developed sediment workshop. The two groups sequentially completed tasks associated to the three main challenges, asking questions and participating in debates as they moved along.

The workshops were thoughtfully designed to ignite early STEM learning and foster critical thinking skills in young children (photos below).
Following the workshops, everyone enjoyed a delightful snack and celebrated the young participants' achievements with a diploma ceremony.
Here's to the continuation of exciting science at Carlos III!

This enriching workshop was made possible through funding from the Research Dissemination and Transfer Activities scheme (Delegación del Rector para el Desarrollo Estratégico, UCA).
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Gloria Peralta and Francisco Morris for their invaluable assistance and support throughout the entire event!
